The start of a New Year is a great time to think about our goals. This year I encourage you to step up your game and get moving! The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services sets the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, which state that most health benefits come with 150 minutes (2 1/2 hours) of moderate physical activity a week. You can break that up however you want, such as five 30-minutes sessions or 22-minutes every day. This year I challenge you to make 150 minutes per week your goal if you aren’t already meeting it.
If you’re already getting 150 minutes of physical activity, set your goal higher, and aim for 250 minutes a week. You could add in two days of strengthening exercises or spend more time stretching. To strengthen your core, try my Pilates class on Monday nights, or check out a Coreworks class.
Get your family on board and start a friendly competition. Get a Fitbit or other fitness tracker so you can keep track of your steps and try to beat your step count. A Fitbit definitely helped motivate my husband in 2015 to move more; my family got me one for Christmas so I can track my movement also.
